- A theme will be posted each week (on Thursdays)
- Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
- Mention the author and the title of the book along with your post
- It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don’t necessarily need to have the word)
Theme: NAME
(The first name you come across while reading)
(The first name you come across while reading)
My snippet:
"Oh, that's just Maan, he's Pran's younger brother."
"Really! But he's so good-looking and Pran's so, well, not ugly, but, you know, dark, and nothing special."
"Maybe he's a dark Cad," suggested Lata. "Bitter but sustaining."
(From A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth)
Ah, I like the visual image of the character...thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteHow is "Maan" pronounced?
Where I come from, it's a name for girls (a contraction of "Mary Anne") and is pronounced MAH-ahn. =)
I have no idea! They're Indian/Hindu names, and although I've seen more than a few Bollywood films, I'm not familiar with any of them. :)
DeletePran's the ugly duckling, it seems...

Yes, he's a plain man, and the conversation takes place at his wedding to a beautiful woman. It's just the start of the book, so we'll see what happens...
DeleteOk, Maan and Pran.. I know how they are pronounced though I could never write the pronounciations down :) Good snippet. Will come back for your review on this book..
ReplyDeleteYou'll have a bit of a wait for the review; it's a long book and I've just started it. Very enjoyable so far, though.
